2024 Charity Quilt Project Colorado Block Challenge

Guidelines:

  1.  Make a lap sized quilt approximately 40”  square using at least one of the Colorado block pictured.
  2.  Bring that completed quilt to The Creative Needle before August 1st
  3.  Quilts will be displayed August 1st - August 31st for judging and to be entered to win a $100 gift certificate.
  4.  After judging you can choose to donate your quilt to one of our selected charities or you may take it home.

BLOCK INSTRUCTIONS:

  1.  Make 16 half-square-triangles in any size you choose.
  2.  Arrange half-square-triangles per diagram.

Free Motion for Beginners

 

Learn to follow a pattern to free motion embroider or quilt on your machine any model any brand! No fancy machine necessary. Class fee: $35.00. Students need to bring sewing machine, full bobbin, extension table (if you have one)  Teacher: Marge. Class time is 2 hours.

Quilting 101
 

Learn beginning quilting techniques without having to invest a lot of time or money. We provide everything you need: rotary cutters rulers mats sewing machines patterns and fabric to make a block. You will learn to: sew an accurate 1/4" seam correctly use rotary cutter and rulers how to make a 4 patch and half square triangle. $30.00 supplies included.

In this class, learn many creative ways you can use your sewing machine's decorative stitches.  Even if you don’t own the fanciest sewing machine, these decorative stitched ideas might just inspire your next project.

Binding Made Easy

In this class, you will learn the process of quilt binding. You will learn how to sew the binding strips together, how to attach the binding to the quilt and how to finish the corners neatly.

All of the required supplies will be provided for you. However, please don't forget to bring your own sewing machine, as it will be necessary for you to practice and perfect your technique during the class.

Hemstitching by Machine


Let your sewing machine create a Victorian pincushion while you learn simple but elegant stitches on your sewing machine.

Introduction to Heirloom Sewing by Machine

Heirloom stitches which include laces, ribbons, pintucks, pipings, or ruffles to name a few, are often used as embellishments. They can enhance the overall look of clothing such as gowns or even lingerie. 

Knowing how to do basic heirloom stitches on the sewing machine can be done quickly and easily with precise results. 

In this class Lana will teach you the most commonly used stitches while making this sweet baby bonnet.

Mexican Star Demonstration

 

Mexican Stars Wall Hanging Quilt is designed by Annette Ornelas for Southwind Designs. This spectacular quilt achieves a 3-dimensional effect that would be a jaw-dropping beauty. The Mexican Stars uses a straight seam piecing with curved results method. A perfect quilt for any color palette.

Redwork by Machine

No "fancy" machine needed for this technique-just a straight stitch machine simple supplies and a little practice will allow you to embroider quilt blocks or labels in a flash. Techniques covered in this class will help you with any free hand machine work you might want to do. Bring your sewing machine, an empty bobbin and if you have an extension table and free motion foot it is recommended but not necessary.
